Now these general types of comments are offered on a surprisingly regular basis but I must admit I fallen into the habit of dismissing them as spam. If somebody makes a specific comment about what is in the post or better still tells me a post is absolute rubbish or the maths are wrong then I take notice.
What made Lug’s comment different was he asked the question – at least in as many words – who am I?
This led me to contemplate – much the same as David Armano has done this week with his post Why I Should Stop Blogging (But Probably Won’t) – why do I Blog? Clearly it’s not about building the Brand of me.Inc
I suspect most people blog for 4 reasons. The most common reason I suspect is Blogging is a form of on-line scrapbook. It allows you the option to gather fragments from around the web and store them in one place so they are easier to find. Another reason is the creative release. Blogging offer you the chance to “expose” things to the world you may not have the opportunity to do elsewhere in you life. Next are the professionals who are busy building their me.Inc brand across the web and for these people blogging is only one aspect of a full-time preoccupation with shouting at the world “Hey, over here, take a look at me!” . The last group is the pro-bloggers or wanna be pro-bloggers seeking to peck out an existence “shouting at the screen” oops, sorry I should say the world.
For me Excapite is a sandpit. A place to conduct experiments by gathering fragments together from across the web, combining the with some old ideas (i.e. the MobCon) and seeing if something new emerges. A place to test online myths and a place to build sand castles out of ideas and to discover if those ideas strike a chord with others elsewhere in the world.
In this search over the past year I have been lucky enough to discover some new faces who find these sand castles interesting enough to entice them to keep coming back for more. This has lead me to an understanding of a 5th dimension to Blogging: The opportunity to connect with others.
Over the past month I have been tracking these regulars and subscribers down and inviting them to join me on LinkedIn. Not just so they can put a face to the blog but so they can see who else has been following the Excapite.
So if you are a regular – and I haven’t tracked you down yet – and you want to join us then please either sign up for the email subscription or leave me a comment below and I’ll be in touch
You’re right haha, it was not spam at all. I discovered your blog in March when I was on holidays in Barcelona, a town I love very much, with my associates.
We were supposed not to do anything related to work, and I still couldn’t help but keep reading your articles hahaha.
About the linkedin add, I didn’t see yours so I suppose other people sometimes don’t, simply because linkedin is not a social network I give a lot of attention to, and I don’t read the notfications or loggin there so often. I’ll go there now since you added me obviously, but my point is maybe some of your readers don’t notice.
Take care.
