Is that a smartphone in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?

The headline on today’s post comes courtesy of a Tomi Ahonen retweet from a few weeks back.

The line “Is that a smartphone in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?” is of course a word play on that immortal Mae West double entendre from the 1930′s.

It’s a funny line but I think there is a great message in there for anybody in the marketing business smart enough to see the insight embedded in the humour. Try substituting “my business” for the smartphone and I think you’ll see what I mean.

“Is that my business in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?”.

The smartphone, indeed any mobile phone, is indeed the future of your business sitting in their pocket and the challenge you face as marketers is to make sure that the whole world – be it your customers, your partners, your investors, your sales team or your customer service team – is thinking that way.

Think about it and have a laugh. But make sure you act on it before your competitors do.
